Murray was born on Christmas Day, 1934 at Talmage, SK. He started school at Wheaton country school along with Wibergs, Nelson and the Kellys. When he was in grade 3, the family moved to Weyburn and the farm was rented out. It was during this time Murray started playing the tenor saxophone with the Weyburn Senior Band. After living in Weyburn for 10 years, the family moved back to the farm and Murray began farming. Although he was busy with the farming operation, he still found time to play with the Fillmore Band.
Murray was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 56 years and the Shriners for 35 years, his dedication shown by the fact that he only missed 7 meetings in all those years. He was happiest when he was around his many friends and family and he always kept in touch with people whether it was a simple phone call or a visit. He loved to attend the family reunions, family weddings and fishing trips in northern Saskatchewan, proudly displaying pictures of each event.
Murray was an honest man, a true gentleman and someone we will all truly miss. Rest in peace Murray.
