Donna Hazel Jensen

Donna Hazel Jensen, late of Ogema, SK, passed away on November 28, 2021 at the age of 79 years.

Donna is survived by her daughter Diane (Don), grandson Dylan; her son Wade (Astraea), granddaughter Taryn and grandsons, Talon and Taye; sisters Shirley (Rae) and Barbara (Kevin);sister-in-law Lorna; brother-in-law Robert (Phyllis); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband LaVerne; brother Duncan; father Harold; her mother Margaret; step-father Art; mother-in-law Esther; father-in-law Johan; and numerous Jensen sister and brother-in-laws.

Donna H Jensen (Cross) was one of the twins born to Margaret and Harold on June 17, 1942, and passed away November 28, 2021 after a brief and brave battle with cancer.  Donna was a twin sister to Duncan and older sister to Shirley and Barbara.   At a young age they learned the love of being outdoors. 

They attended Linden school, and then completed high school in Ogema.  She obtained her Teaching Certificate and then began teaching in Rockglen and later in Ogema.  She continued taking classes as it brought her great joy to learn new things.

On August 11, 1962 Donna married the love of her life, LaVerne.  They had two children, a daughter Diane and son Wade. They farmed together until LaVerne passed away unexpectedly in 1984. She continued to raise her family and figure out how to carry on without his love and support. In the fall of 1995 she purchased a house in Ogema and moved to town permanently.

Donna was a perfectionist and had a very green thumb and people were amazed at how much produce she could grow in such a small garden.  Having flowers she could see from her kitchen window brought her great joy.  Food was how she showed her love, her food was always welcoming, comforting and she made sure you did not leave hungry. 

Donna enjoyed spending time with her family but especially her grandkids.  Her grandchildren were the light in her life.  She had a special love for working and being outside. Watching and participating in sports was a lifelong pastime, she curled and played ball and enjoyed watching curling, the Riders and hockey. She passed many hours playing cards with family and friends and doing handiwork.  She was a wealth of knowledge and enjoyed family history. She was always up for an adventure with her family and friends and travelled many places which she often talked about.

A Service of Remembrance was held on Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. from Ogema Heritage Hall, Ogema Recreation Complex, Ogema, SK with licensed lay worship leader Gloria Prentice.  Luncheon followed after the service at the Ogema Heritage Hall, Ogema Recreation Complex, Ogema, SK,  Interment will be held at a later date at the Ogema Cemetery, Ogema, SK.

The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, health care workers, the palliative care team and especially Dr. S. Mahmood for the excellent care Donna received during the past few months.  The family appreciates all those came to see and reached out to Donna in her final weeks bringing her happiness and comfort.
