Frank Kot Obituary

Frank Thomas Kot, late of Weyburn, SK passed away July 10, 2021 at the age of 97 years.

He was predeceased by his parents, George and Marianna Kot; sisters and brothers: Annie, Mary, Caroline, Rose, Veronica, John, Louis, Gregory, Phillips and Joseph; sisters-in-law: Bridgette Kot, Adella Kot, Helen Kot; brothers-in-law: John McGough, Russel Soltys, John Vogel, John Schmidt and John Bauer.

Frank is survived by his numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great nieces.

He was born on December 12, 1923at the George Kot homestead located near McTaggart, SK. Growing up, he attended Muckamore School. Farm chores played a large role in his day to day life— a habit that stuck with him well into his late nineties.

Family was one of the most important things to Frank. He was always warm and welcoming and enjoyed his time with his family. He was a gentleman and would not hesitate to say to his nephews, “Watch your language. There’s a lady present,” should a bad word slip out amongst the conversation.

True to his Kot heritage, Frank loved animals—especially the farm cats. He was meticulous when it came to the food the cats were fed. Many of times he would stand at the old stove cooking up his famous meals just for the cats and dog, while his nieces and nephews watched in awe. He always made sure the farm animals were well cared for.

Frank showed his Hereford Bulls in many places across Saskatchewan. One of the highlights of his cattle career was when representatives travelled from overseas just to see his bulls. A deal was made, and his show bulls were shipped to their new home overseas.

Apart from cattle, Frank also grain farmed—alongside his brothers and nephews.

Frank was a storyteller, and when he spoke, you just wanted to listen. He would lean forward in his chair and wave his hands just so, in order to emphasize certain punchlines. These stories are going to be one of the things we miss the most— they were always entertaining when he told them.

Frank’s mind was sharp and quick until the day he passed. He could recall upon events of old or take up a conversation from yesterday. Whatever his secret was, we all can only hope to be as sharp as Frank at the age of 97!

Upon his brother Joe’s death, Frank said “Joe was a hard worker, he got covered in dust by plowing fields with horses and froze by feeding cows by hand in winter.” Although Frank said this about his brother, the statement could just as easily be applied to him as well.

He was a devoted Catholic, a farmer at heart and a family man.

Resilient and steadfast, Frank T. Kot was his own Cowboy and truly, one of a kind.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday, July 21, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Francis Plaparampil celebrant. Pallbearers were:  Robert Schmidt, Mark Bauer, Bart Bauer, Nathan Vogel, Trevor Soltys and Robin Kot. Interment followed the service at McTaggart Cemetery, McTaggart, SK.
