Karen McLean (Olson) Obituary

Karen Elaine McLean (Olson) born November 14, 1962 in Moose Jaw, SK passed away December 15, 2022 at the age of 60 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Shirley Elaine Olson and Ralph Clinton Olson; and her niece Marcy Paul (nee Olson).

Karen will be remembered by her children: daughter Aleta (Craig) Bendickson and their children: [Tanner (Natalie), Connor, Nathan and Mya]; son Troy (Michaela) Turner and their children [Luke and Camryn]; daughter Tara (Tyler) Carter and their sons [Ryder, Waylon and Jaxen]; daughter Tanya (Kurtis) Melenchuk and their children [Blayne, Tatiana, Ameliya and Arlo]; son Andre (Christina) Schepens and their daughter [Layla]; daughter Shelby (Brice) Marshall and their son [Arden]; her brother, Randy Olson; nephews Cory and Chad; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Karen McLean (Olson) was an extraordinary woman and an amazing mother who impacted the lives of many. She spent many years working in the health care field taking on several roles that involved caring for those who needed it most. Karen took pride in her work and helped many people throughout her years. Karen started to experience health problems in 2011 which eventually lead to a rare diagnosis of Progress Multifocal Leukoencephalopathy (PML) in October of 2017. Within a month of being diagnosed with PML she became paralyzed on her right side and developed aphasia which left her unable to communicate effectively with others. Karen was a warrior type, she fought and even when she couldn’t, she found a way. She believed in the power of determination and never giving up and continue her new normal way of life by being with her family. She lived at the Kipling Long Term Care Facility and made many memories with her family and those who cared for her during her time there.

“Life ain’t always beautiful but it’s a beautiful ride” – Gary Allan

Karen passed away from PML on December 15, 2022 peacefully at the Kipling hospital. Karen will be missed and loved by all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
