Michael Parks Obituary

It is with great sadness, that after a courageous battle with cancer, we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle and dear friend Michael Parks, late of Winnipeg, MB and formerly of Weyburn, SK.

"Death leaves a heartache no one can heal; love leaves a memory no one can steal."   ~Irish Proverb~

Michael was predeceased by his mother Audrey Parks; grandma Lillian and grandpa Horace Butler; grandma Ina and grandpa Cecil Parks; his aunts and uncles: Stella and Roy Butler, Phyllis and Lawrence Bloor, Josie and Bill Hindley, Agnes and Lyle Parks, Albina and Wes Parks, Hazel and Ernie Peterson, Nora and Mike Schmidt, Dorothy Blanchard, Patricia Gardiner, Raymond Parks, Russel Hallborg, Armand Tremblay, and Ted Beaudin.

Michael is survived by his father, Cecil Parks; sister Rosanne (Darryl) Kerr and their children: Victoria, Hope and Calista; his sister Pat Parks (Kim) Wilkes and their children: Devan Lohse (Danka Spiric), Paige and Brady Popil [Kohen and Camdyn], Jennifer and Konrad Frederiksen [Brianna Lynn, Karter, Alexa Lee], Andrea Woods [Brennen and Adelyn], Travis Wilkes and Devon Wilkes [Avery]; aunts and uncles: Delores and Rod Butler, Kathy and Gordon Parks, Maxine Hallborg, Darlene Beaudin and Maurice Blanchard; as well as many cousins, and special friends too numerous to mention.

"Come to me, all of you who are tired from carrying your heavy loads, and I will give you rest."  ~ Matthew 11: 28 ~

Cecil & Audrey Parks and their extended families were thrilled when Michael joined our family through adoption when he was five.  He was a loving son and brother.  He grew up on a farm south of Oungre where he enjoyed horseback riding and keeping his parents entertained with his infectious laugh and curiosity.  He attended Lyndale School where he soon met and made many lifelong friends.  Michael worked with the Highway Department, Nexans (then Canada Wire & Cable) and in the oil industry when he moved to Alberta.  He eventually settled in Winnipeg where he maintained many special friendships.

Wherever Michael was he made friends.  People were important to him.  He loved to visit and to hear other people's stories, share a good laugh and a good home cooked meal, which was readily available when he visited his many friends and family.  He is remembered by all as jovial, friendly, compassionate and kind with an amazing memory for family histories and trivia.

“He will always be remembered for his generosity, quick wit and a ready smile” a message from a dear friend which reflects so many of the messages we have received.

As per Michael's request, there will be no funeral service.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Michael may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3, or to a local food bank in Michael's name.

The Parks family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff at the Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.

"Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares."  ~Hebrews 13: 2 ESV ~
