Wanda Siba Obituary

Wanda Beverly Siba, late of Ogema, SK passed away June 14, 2022 at the age of 70 years.

She was predeceased by her father Cecil Jones; her brother Denver Jones; in-laws, Frank and Rosina Siba; and sister Grace Ellen Siba.

Wanda is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert Siba; and their children: Paul Siba, Starbuck Siba [daughter Heaven], Holly (Greg) Hatch [son Ethan]; her grandson Clinton Siba; her mother Katherena Jones; siblings: Darrel (Linda) Jones, Barbara (Regent) Larivière, Wesley (Sylvia) Jones, Debbie (Ben) Radke, Allan (Carol) Jones; siblings-in-law: Eddy Siba, Susan Kennedy, David Siba, Christina Lauch and Catherine Siba; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

On May 12, 1952, in Cold Lake, AB, Cecil and Katherena Jones welcomed their fourth baby into their family.  She had soft golden hair framing her round cheeks and big brown eyes.  They named her Wanda Beverly.

The Joneses were rather nomadic and moved often, with almost each of Wanda's six siblings having their own birth place.  Wanda spent most of her childhood in Calgary and her teens at Spirit River. She took Secretarial Arts at Fairview College.

During that year, Wanda met the love of her life. One weekend she phoned home to tell her folks she needed to stay and study for finals so she wouldn’t be coming home as usual.   BC’s  age of majority was only 19 then and Wanda had had her birthday a few weeks earlier but Robert hadn’t.  His Mom, Rosina Siba, happily signed consent.  So on June 11,1971, they took their best friends and off they went to Fort St. John, BC and eloped. Their ‘official wedding photo’ has them sitting on the kitchen table in their honeymoon motel room, teenagers in love.

Family was everything to Wanda and while they were living in Grande Prairie they had their very own: Paul, Starbuck, and Holly. Then Robert packed up the family and he took his prairie girl to his beloved Vancouver Island.   Soon Wanda became a true Island girl, loving Robert’s ocean.

They finished raising their kids there.  After grandson Clinton was born, Wanda and Robert moved to Olds, AB with him and Paul.  When Clinton started school, Wanda wanted to take him to a better place so they moved to Ogema, SK, where they saw Clinton through to graduation, a job well done. Meanwhile Holly (Greg) had Ethan. Starbuck (Julie), his Heaven.

When Wanda and Robert ‘adopted’ Clinton, Wanda retired from the retail world and became a full-time mom again.  She was able to indulge in her hobbies like painting, knitting, crocheting, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking and even more gardening to mention a few.  She loved spoiling the grandkids with the fruits of her labour.

Wanda treasured her family but she was diagnosed with lung cancer, with one tumor on the brain.  Surgery and therapy became her new way of life.  Wanda fought like a navy seal but after three years she lost.  On the morning of June 14, 2022 her guardian angels escorted her away to heaven, leaving us with broken hearts and a big hole in our lives.

Cremation has taken place and no funeral service will be held.

For family and friends so wishing, charitable donations in memory of Wanda may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK, S4P 2R3.
